1. How does chiropractic care help?

Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy.  When under proper control of your nervous system, all the cells, tissues and organs of your body are designed to resist disease and ill health.  The Chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and help remove interference to your natural state of being healthy.  A common interference to the nervous system are the 24 moving bones of the spinal column.  A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system.  This can disrupt the transmission of controlling nerve impulses.  With improved spinal function, there is often improved nervous system function.  Your Chiropractic Doctor can help remove interferences that may be impairing normal health.

2. I didn’t hear a sound. Does that mean the Adjustment didn’t work?

A Chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is fixated , “locked up” , or not moving properly.  There are many ways to adjust the spine.  Usually , the doctor's hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief or highly accurate thrust.  Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow and constant pressure.  After years of training and clinical experience , each Chiropractic Doctor becomes highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting approaches.

3. Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?

Chiropractic care is covered under most health insurance plans.  Some plans may have visit limits, dollar limits or referral requirements.  The specifics depend on each individual plan.

4. How safe is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic has an excellent safety record that is the result of a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs.  A thorough case history and examination help reveal areas of the spine that may be causing nervous system malfunction.  This information will be used to determine the best course of care for each patient. Dr Bliss. utilizes very gentle treatment techniques. His gentle treatments are great as well for infants as helps a ton on colic, digestion, ear infections etc.

5. Is chiropractic care safe while I’m pregnant?

Chiropractic care is not only safe for pregnant women, but also has been shown to alleviate common aches and pains caused from weight gain and spine stress due to pregnancy.

6. Can I become addicted to Chiropractic Adjustments?

Chiropractic is not addictive or habit forming.  You usually feel better following an adjustment , able to move freely and with better posture.  Feeling free from muscle aching and pain can be addicting. However, the goal of a good Chiropractor is to get you feeling better , and allow your body to work properly, so you don’t need constant adjusting to feel your best.

7. Is Chiropractic safe for children?

Childhood can be a physically traumatic time.  Most children will take plenty of falls as they learn to crawl, walk , run and engage in sports, games and other physical activities.  Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment option for children of all ages. Dr. Bliss treats a ton of children and gentle specialized techniques for all kind of pediatric issues.

8. How much schooling does a Chiropractor have?

Today’s Doctor of Chiropractic is well educated.  After undergraduate studies, todays Chiropractic Doctor completes an additional four-year curriculum of over 4,500 college classroom hours of health sciences.  Special emphasis on anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, biomechanics, X-rays and spinal adjusting techniques.  To graduate with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, each candidate passes demanding National Board Examinations.  Then, Doctors apply to an additional governmental or professional State Licensing Board and pass a still more difficult test before granted the privilege to practice.

9. Can I see a Chiropractor if I’ve had back surgery?

Much depends on the status or type of surgery that was performed, however, you can still do other treatments to help relieve the pain and get better function to the areas around the surgery like adjusting your pelvis or upper back if that is associated with your pain. We usually see the above and below spinal segments from a surgery compensate and it is very beneficial to keep motion in the joint and prevent further issues. This really helps relieve pain and restore proper biomechanics.

10. How Long Will it Take to Work?

The amount of time it takes for the effects of Chiropractic therapy to work depends on the type of injury, the duration of the problem and the overall health of the patient.  Generally speaking, a majority of people start seeing improvement with their condition within 3 to 10 visits. We will welcome a change early and some patients see immediate results. It is typically a healing process but bottom line is your favorable results.

Depending on what you’re getting treated for can determine what you can expect. If you are compliant with care and follow your doctor’s instructions then at the very least you can expect to have a better quality of life without drugs or surgery.

It is a good rule of thumb that the longer the problem has been there, the longer it is going to take to recover. There are also many other variables to consider such as age, medical history, pre-existing conditions, etc. Children do heal quicker so it is always good to start care as early as possible. Please keep in mind that lifestyle plays a large role in how quickly your body heals.

11. How frequently should I get adjusted?

Since everyone is different so it is hard to put one number on it for everyone. Call Bliss Chiropractic and Acupuncture in Anderson and we would be more than happy to put you on a wellness schedule!

When a chiropractor is working on restoring structure to your spine they are doing a lot more than you think. They are combating your lifestyle (diet, posture, stress, etc.) and retraining the musculature that connects and surrounds your spine. Surgery can perform quicker results but there are a lot of consequences such as the financial costs, recovery time, anesthesia, medications, etc. Getting chiropractic care is safe and natural and relies on your body to do the healing. So, patience is a virtue.

12. Does everyone receive the same adjustment?

At Bliss Chiropractic and Acupuncture we provide personalized care based on what we find during your examination and x-ray findings. Since no two people are the same, no two people are adjusted the same. Also, after every adjustment your body slightly changes so no two adjustments are the same twice.
